Criel-sur-Mer (Seine-Maritime) is famous for its high chalk cliffs, the tallest in France. In the area, you can explore the beautiful Mers-les-Bains with its Art Nouveau houses, Le Tréport with its harbor and excellent fish restaurants, and Eu with its palace and rose garden. There are also scenic cycling routes and walking paths. In short, there’s plenty to do. But above all, you’ll enjoy the sea, the seagulls, the open space, nature, and tranquility.

Villa De Vriendschap
Criel-sur-Mer consists of three parts. First, there is le Bourg, the village itself. Then la Plage, where the villa is located. And finally, the hamlet of Mesnil Val, where you can still find many Art Nouveau houses.
Criel-Plage was largely destroyed during World War II. The Germans believed the Allies might land here because the area has a wide valley and good access to the sea. Thanks to this large valley, there are beautiful panoramic views and pleasant walking paths. On Mont Joli Bois, you can hike to the highest point of the chalk cliffs for a stunning overview of Criel-Plage.
In the village, there are three buildings worth visiting. The Saint-Aubin Church, built in the 14th century, is especially remarkable for its façade, which is decorated with three types of stone—flint, sandstone, and white stone—arranged in a beautiful pattern. The Criel Town Hall is an old manor with robust towers, set in a green area with a large parking lot where the weekly market is held on Wednesdays. The Château de Chantereine has been used as a holiday center since 1930, and countless children have played there and sent postcards with sunny greetings. These postcards can still be found at the many summer flea markets.
The tourist office in the village, located on the main road, provides information about the area in Dutch and other languages. During the summer months, there is also an additional staffed booth on the beach.

A large parking area is available at 8 Rue Yauville. From the parking, you can walk through the orchard past the chalet to reach the house. The chalet serves as the fourth bedroom, with two single beds (80 cm wide) that can, of course, also be pushed together.
In the chalet, there is also an electric heater, a coat rack, a chest of drawers, and two chairs. Outside, on the covered veranda, you’ll find two more chairs and a side table. The chalet offers sea views.
The house has an underground space, which can be used as a bike storage area (not suitable for cars or motorcycles). This space also contains a bathroom with a double sink, shower, and toilet—convenient for guests staying in the chalet, so they don’t need to go into the main house. An internal staircase leads up to the ground floor. This area also has a washing machine and dryer; however, they should not be used simultaneously to avoid overloading the electrical system. Additionally, there is an extra fridge with a freezer compartment and a drying rack.
On the ground floor, the house features an entrance hall with a wardrobe, a toilet, and a kitchen equipped with a dishwasher, fridge, oven, and induction cooktop. Most small appliances are also available, including a toaster, mixer, juicer, coffee maker, and other household items. The living room has a dining table with six chairs, and the two chairs from the kitchen can be added, providing seating for eight people. There is a three-person sofa, a two-person sofa, two armchairs, and two side tables. The room is further equipped with two floor lamps, a fireplace, a large TV, a DVD player, and Wi-Fi.
Upstairs, there are three bedrooms, a separate toilet, and a bathroom. The bathroom has a sink and a shower. The pink bedroom features a double bed (160 cm wide), a built-in wardrobe, a coat rack, a chair, and sea views. The green bedroom has two single beds (80 cm each), a built-in wardrobe, a coat rack, a chair, a floor lamp, and sea views. The yellow bedroom contains a 140 cm wide bed, a built-in wardrobe, a coat rack, and a side table, with views of the garden.
The garden has a large terrace with a long dining table and eight chairs, as well as four sun loungers, all with cushions provided. Along the side of the garden is an oak bench, and near the kitchen, a small table with two chairs. From all these spots, you have sea views and can enjoy the sunset in the evening. Since the villa is located on a quiet street, there is almost no traffic, and you can hear only nature—the sound of the sea, birds singing, and seagulls calling. The house is designed to feel like a “home,” and you will feel genuinely welcome.
Things to Do in Criel-sur-Mer and Surroundings
When my friends come to visit, we always go mussel collecting at low tide at least once. First, we check the tides, and when it’s ebbing, we head out. Everyone brings a bucket and wears water shoes—fun guaranteed! In the pools that form, you pick the large mussels that are still underwater and leave the small ones to grow. Once home, the mussels are cleaned and cooked with some celery and onion. Add a glass of white wine, and you have a royal feast.
Another classic activity is walking in Le Tréport and Mers-les-Bains. By car, you go via Mesnil-Val to the funicular, where there is parking. First, admire the stunning panorama from the top of the cliff, then take the cable car down. You arrive directly in the center of Le Tréport, where the small streets invite to a leisurely stroll. Soon, you’ll reach the harbor, where the fish auction is a sensory experience of colors and smells. In the restaurants, a seafood platter is often a true work of art and highly recommended. Don’t forget to visit the museum about the history of the stones (les galets) and the Saint Jacques Church, which highlights the fishermen. Then, cross via the pedestrian walkway at the lock to Mers-les-Bains. The façades of the houses are a visual delight, with the curls and colors reflecting the Art Nouveau period. Mers-les-Bains is truly one of the French favorites. If you get tired, you can take the little tourist train back to the funicular. In the evening, you can reflect on all the beautiful sights you’ve seen.
For those who love flowers and plants, a visit to the Château d’Eu with its famous rose garden is a real treat. Every time, I am amazed by the beautiful shapes and colors of the rose bushes, with so many rare varieties and stunning beauty. And if that’s not enough, you can also visit the Karlostachys Jungle Garden by appointment. The owner gives an enthusiastic 90-minute tour that is never boring—both educational and entertaining.
There’s also Dieppe, Rouen, Château de Miromesnil, and the church in Varengeville, to name just a few. After six years of living here, I’m never bored. There’s always something to do or see, even if it’s just visiting one of the many flea markets held throughout the area. And you can always play pétanque on the beach. Relaxing and enjoying yourself—these are the key words here.

The rental is available only by the week (or longer), from Saturday to Saturday. Arrival is possible between 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM. Departure must be by 11:00 AM at the latest.

Villa De Vriendschap was discovered by Tiny Esveld in 2019 and was originally intended for personal use.
After three years of intensive searching, she finally found a spacious, cozy house with a beautiful garden and sea views. Since friends and family also enjoyed it so much, she eventually bought the neighboring house, where she now spends almost the entire year. Life in Criel-sur-Mer truly feels like living in paradise. The peace, the nature, the sea—you really have everything you need to relax and enjoy life.

Terms and Conditions
Arrival & Departure: Check-in is from 3:00 PM, and check-out is by 11:00 AM. Keys are handed over on-site by the owner, who lives next door, or by the neighbor who maintains the villa. Both are available to answer any questions. Together with one of them, you will walk through the villa and receive initial instructions on using everything.
Rental Period: Available all year, per week from Saturday to Saturday.
Included in the Rent: The rental includes final cleaning, normal energy costs, and tourist tax. Charging electric cars is not allowed. If consumption exceeds 15 kWh per day, the extra kilowatts will be charged at €0.50 per kWh. Bed linen and towels are included. Private parking is available on the property.
Pets: One dog is allowed. The garden is fenced.
Smoking: Smoking inside the villa is not permitted.
Security Deposit: A security deposit of €250 is required.
We require a security deposit because damage caused by guests (to the inventory) cannot be insured with any company. This deposit must be paid simultaneously with the remaining rental balance, four weeks before arrival.
Upon arrival, please check the property and report any deficiencies immediately to the manager. For clarity, this does not include glassware, dishes, or minor wear from normal use. Any pre-existing damage that has not yet been repaired will be pointed out during the introduction. Immediately after departure, the manager will inspect the villa during cleaning for any damage and notify you the same day by phone or email. If the villa is left without damage, your security deposit will be refunded within a few days.
We advise checking with your insurance company to see if you are covered for damage caused to rented holiday properties, especially the inventory. Your liability insurance (WA) usually does not cover damage to inventory in holiday homes. A travel insurance policy up to €250 can at least cover your own paid security deposit.
Payment Terms
50% of the rental fee is due within 14 days of booking.
The remaining 50% is due 4 weeks before arrival.
Your reservation is only legally confirmed once we have received your first payment. If we do not receive your deposit within 14 days, we will cancel your reservation.
If the second payment is not received 4 weeks before your arrival date, the reservation will be cancelled. The first payment will not be refunded.
In case of cancellation, no payments will be refunded.
We strongly recommend taking out cancellation insurance at all times.
House Rules
The maximum number of guests must not be exceeded.
Any deficiencies in the inventory or other remarks should be reported on the day of arrival.
Rentals to groups of young people are not allowed. The minimum age is 25 years.
Hosting employees for a company is not permitted.
Bachelor/bachelorette parties or student parties are not allowed.
Quiet hours start at 12:00 AM (midnight).
Fondue sets, stone grills, pizza ovens, and similar small electrical appliances are not allowed in the house for fire safety reasons.
Charging stations for electric cars are available at restaurants 300 meters away. Our household switches are not suitable for this purpose.
Smoking inside the house is prohibited.
If anything is broken or lost during your stay, please report it before departure.
Waste must be sorted according to local guidelines.
The house must be left broom-clean.
A standard final cleaning of 4 hours is included. Cleaning of excessive dirt contrary to the house rules will be charged extra.
Garden maintenance may occasionally take place during the week. Normally, the garden will be ready before your arrival.
